The Cheshire Athletic Union (AU)
The Athletic Union is part of the Students' Union which provides the means for students to participate in physical recreation as individuals and as part of a team. This includes both competitive and non-competitive activities. Athletic Union clubs are set up and run by voluntary student committees.
If you and other students are interested in a sport or physical recreation activity that is not currently up and running at MMU Cheshire, then we will work with you to help get it set up.
Athletic Union Membership
Before you can join any of the sports and physical recreation clubs (either competitive or non-competitive) you must first join the Athletic Union. The clubs will ask to see your Athletic Union membership card when you sign up.
Membership gives you personal accident insurance while taking part in any Athletic Union organised sports events or training. You are even covered travelling to and from these activities. It is also a requirement of the British Universities and College Sports (BUCS) that all students competing are fully paid up members of their Athletic Union.

Other Opportunities
In addition to the BUSA activities we also enter a number of teams into local, regional non-University competitions and leagues. We have links with a number of non University clubs and teams which our students are encouraged to get involved with and play for. There are many recreational sporting opportunities both internally to the University and externally through established links and we continue to pursue and build these and other links to further these activities.
